Today's Recipe: Quick Pickles

It’s time to break out the mason jars and make some briny pickles to accompany your sandwiches, sides, and -- well-- just about everything! Pickled items make great snacks and look beautiful on a platter. Got some cucumbers? Then making pickles at home couldn't get any easier.  Today’s recipe features a technique for making them right in your own kitchen.

After this week, you’re probably an expert at canning. So grab those jars and these ingredients to get started!

  • 3 cups white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons coarse salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 2 to 4 small red chiles (optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh dill fronds (about 1 bunch)
  • Prepared Vegetables

    Sarah, I LOVE watching your videos. Got a question on this one. I am watching my sugar for pre diabetes reasons so is it possible to make this recipe without sugar? At all? Just curious. It looks so good. I'm not a fan of sweet pickles but I would love to try this and make regular pickles. Thanks so much!

    Hi Carol, You could definitely try it. The result will taste quite tangy since it will just be in vinegar, but it would still work. Let us know how it works out.
