Place 10 pitted fresh sour cherries, 1 slice lemon, and 2 teaspoons superfine sugar at the bottom of a rocks glass. Muddle until sugar is dissolved and cherries have released their juices. Add 2 ounces bourbon, top with ice and if desired, a 1/2 ounce float of Maraschino liqueur. This drink would be especially delicious with the Sour Cherry Infused Bourbon featured in the June issue of Everyday Food.

Oh, for a sour cherry tree! Here in Phoenix, finding fresh sour cherries is pretty much impossible. Would it be complete heresy to use a (good brand) canned version? I'm afraid that's as close as I can get without heading to the northern parts of the country.

Don't know about Phoenix but in Texas this is cherry season.
