edf asks: wtf (what's that food)? UPDATE!!!!

Posted by

UPDATE: Sorry for the delay! I promise it won't happen again....but it's nice to see that you guys get excited to find out what our mystery food is :)

For those of you who answered BAMBOO SHOOTS.....you are correct!!!! A far cry from the somewhat stringy, water-logged, canned version, these guys are crunchy and have a texture somewhat similar to hearts of palm. They are delicious sliced and tossed with vinegar, scallion, sesame oil and hot red chilies.

I bet you have had these before, but who knew that this is what they look like? What are they?

Bamboo shoots. I used to live in an Asian neighborhood in San Francisco, and I would see these in the little corner Chinese grocery store.

Hey edf, where are the answers to wtf? Do I have to turn my monitor upside down?

Where can I get a copy of the cookie recipe that was pictured on the cover of your 2nd or 3rd issue of EDF? I cannot find my copy of that issue and I love those cookies and would like to make them for Easter. They were pictured on the cover, you make the dough, roll it into a log, refrigerate it, when it's time to bake, you roll the log into color sugar, slice & bake them. There were variations also like chocolate.
