On Sunday, July 18, a small street in Brooklyn celebrated Bastille Day (4 days late, I know). My friends Laura and Wade recently went to South Africa to do some work for their favorite charity Keep a Child Alive, which helps children and families in Africa and India who are affected by HIV and AIDS. While there, they met a man who was making these curious little treats called "Chip on a Stick" from a hand-crank machine that he had built. The potato is then deep fried and the end result is a crispy-fried spiral-shaped potato on a convenient stick! Wade had to have one, and long story short, we were cranking out potatoes at the street fair to raise money for the charity. There's nothing like a unique treat to pique people's interests for a good cause.
