
Mother from empty vinegar bottle
We recently finished a bottle of red wine vinegar that had a “mother” floating in the bottom. Since we always seem to have half used bottles of red wine in the kitchen I decided to combine the two and make red wine vinegar. I poured the mother into a clean glass measuring cup, topped it with some red wine and let it sit, loosely covered with a kitchen towel. After about a month the mother had grown significantly and the wine had turned to vinegar. Keep adding wine and you will keep making vinegar!
