a rainbow of Parisian macarons

My twin sister and I took a trip to Paris at the beginning of the month. Adina and several other editors told me repeatedly that I couldn't leave Paris without sampling their famous macarons (delicate almond-based cookies, not to be confused with America's coconut macaroons). I shared the beauties above with everyone at work. They were a bit cracked but still had amazing flavor.

We bought these at the famed Laduree, which has several locations in Paris. It's so popular that we had to wait in a line outside the store to buy them! Anna told me to sample their hot chocolate but the line for a table was even longer, so we opted for just grabbing the macarons to go.

Outside of Laduree, decorated for Christmas.

We also sampled Adina's favorite macaron at Gerard Mulot. The "Amaryllis" has raspberries in the middle and a pistachio coating. It was our favorite of the trip. If you have some time on your hands over the holiday, here is a recipe for French macaron.

The amaryllis was three times the size of the macarons from Laduree—big enough to share between the two of us.
